Boosting Lexical Resources for the Semantic Web: Generative Lexicon and Lexicon Interoperability

چکیده
Computational lexicons can play a key role in the Semantic Web: aiming at making word content machine-understandable, they intend to provide an explicit representation of word meaning, so that it can be directly accessed and used by computational agents, such as large-coverage parsers, modules for intelligent Information Retrieval or Information Extraction. In all these cases, semantic information is necessary to enhance the performance of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools, and to achieve a real understanding of text content. Moreover, in multilingual computational lexicons we find the linguistic (morphosyntactic/semantic) information necessary to establish links among words of different languages, information of great importance for systems performing multilingual text processing, such as Machine Translation, Cross-lingual Information Retrieval. If we look at the past, in the last decade many activities have contributed to substantially advance knowledge and capability of how to represent, create, maintain, acquire, access large lexical repositories. These repositories are rich in linguistic knowledge, and based on best practices and standards that have been consensually agreed on or have been submitted to the international community as de facto standards. Core – or even large – lexical repositories have been and are being built for many languages. Besides WordNet (Fellbaum 1998), important examples are EuroWordNet (Vossen 1998), PAROLE (Ruimy et al. 1998), SIMPLE (Lenci et al. 2000a) in Europe, ComLex (Grishman et al. 1994), FrameNet (Fillmore et al. 2001)

Towards a Generative Lexical Resource: The Brandeis Semantic Ontology
In this paper we describe the structure and development of the Brandeis Semantic Ontology (BSO), a large generative lexicon ontology and lexical database. The BSO has been designed to allow for more widespread access to Generative Lexicon-based lexical resources and help researchers in a variety of computational tasks. The specification of the type system used in the BSO largely follows that pr...
متن کاملLinking Verbal Entries of Different Lexical Resources
In the field of Computational Linguistics, many lexical resources have been developed which aim at encoding complex lexical semantic information according to different linguistic models (WordNet, Frame Semantics, Generative Lexicon, etc.). However, these resources are often not easily accessible nor available in their entirety. Yet, from the point of view of the continuous growth of technology ...
متن کاملLinking and Harmonizing Different Lexical Resources: a Comparison of Verbal Entries in ItalWordNet and PAROLE-SIMPLE-CLIPS
During the last years, in the framework of Computational Linguistics, many lexical resources have been developed which aim at coding complex lexical semantic information according to different linguistic models (WordNet, Frame Semantics, Generative Lexicon, etc.). However, these resources are often not easily accessible nor available in their entirety. Yet, from the point of view of the continu...
متن کاملConverting the PAROLE SIMPLE CLIPS lexicon into RDF with lemon
This paper describes the publication and linking of (parts of) PAROLE SIMPLE CLIPS (PSC), a large scale Italian lexicon, to the Semantic Web and the Linked Data cloud using the lemon model. The main challenge of the conversion is discussed, namely the reconciliation between the PSC semantic structure which contains richly encoded semantic information, following the qualia structure of the Gener...
متن کاملSIMPLE-OWL: a Generative Lexicon Ontology for NLP and the Semantic Web
This research deals with the modelling of a Generative Lexicon based ontology to be used in the Semantic Web and Natural Language Processing semantic tasks. This ontology is imported from a existing computational Lexical Resource and is converted to the W3C standard Web Ontology Language. This presents some challenges, as for example the multidimensionality of the original ontology, which are c...
